The Medialexie Toolbar

By Closing the Gap, Vol. 30, No. 2, p. 37
Publication Date: June/July 2011

Article features the Medialexie Toolbar, software that facilitates written communication for people with dyslexia, dysphasia, and dysorthographia. The Medialexie Toolbar is an assistive technology solution conceived by a French software developer and based on Nuance’s Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional. The software is presented in the form of a toolbar that contains functions for the edition, correction, dictation, reading, and visualization of text as well as the transcription of sound recordings. The toolbar includes a dictation tool; a suite of specialized tools including a transcriber, text viewer, and formula writer; the Imaginer, a new mind mapping tool for users who struggle with spatial and temporal orientation to organize their ideas; and the Ecriver, a patented text corrector. With Ecriver, text can be entered in any way the writer prefers, as long as it is phonetically correct, and Ecriver corrects orthographical errors.
