Picture of VOICENOTE BT VoiceNote BT is a braille notetaker designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. Input is made through a nine-key braille keyboard while output is delivered through synthetic speech. The notetaker has a Windows CE operating system and a program suite that includes a word processor that can read and write files in Microsoft Word format; a planner with a calendar, scheduler, and diary with audible alarms; an address list manager; an e-mail program with POP3 access; a scientific calculator; a file manager; translation programs for translating between text, braille, ASCII, Microsoft Word, and WordPerfect formats; an ActiveSync function with the ability to transfer files between the notetaker and a personal computer; and a remote synthesizer to allow the device to act as a speech synthesizer for other computers. This braille notetake has a visual display function that allows a blind student doing schoolwork in braille to show it to a sighted teacher by connecting the notetaker to a personal computer running a terminal program like Windows Hyperterminal. The notetaker has 8 megabytes (MB) flash disk memory, which is internally upgradeable to 48 MB. Interfaces include an RJ11 telephone socket, an infrared port, a Type 11 PCMCIA card slot, a 9-pin serial port, and a 25-pin parallel port. POWER: Uses internal battery for 21 hours of use or alternating current (AC) adaptor. DIMENSIONS (HxLxW): 1.6 x 9.9 x 5.9 inches. WEIGHT: 1.65 pounds.
