« Previous Product Next Product »--- CUSTOM ADAPTATION --- PURPOSE: To enable an individual with quadriplegia to take digital photographs. The user required a mount that would hold the camera very steady, but still allow her to use a tripod and to have the mount moved from a powered wheelchair to a manual wheelchair as required. A holder was designed with a stainless steel vertical arm mounted on the right front caster of each chair. For additional stability, the manual chair had an additional bracing clamped to the frame at wheel and seat height. On the powered chair, the vertical arm sat within a larger and sturdier fixed tube with a nylon bush to enable the arm to rotate. A horizontal arm extends from the vertical arm and clips into place at the end of the left arm of each chair. Mounted on this horizontal arm is a round aluminum platform to hold the tripod. Three methods were used to secure the tripod: the center piece of the tripod is attached by a very strong magnet which clips into a horseshoe-shaped piece of steel in the center of the plate; a seesaw clamp on the wheelchair side of the table holds the magnet in place; and the aluminum rim on the table keeps the tripod legs on the table. When the holder is not in use, it can be turned to the side. A caregiver using an Allen key can turn the table 90 degrees and then the entire arm is pivoted 90 degrees at the connection between the vertical and horizontal arms.
